Overview

NV-52 is a synthetic flavonoid derivative and small molecule inhibitor of thromboxane-A synthase (TXS). Developed by Novogen, it is being investigated for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The drug works by selectively inhibiting TXS at physiologically relevant concentrations, which leads to a reduction in thromboxane B2 levels and a concomitant increase in prostaglandin E2, thereby suppressing colonic inflammation. NV-52 has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical murine models and has been evaluated in Phase I and Phase IIa clinical trials, where it was found to be well-tolerated and orally bioavailable.
