Overview

NV-CoV-1 is a broad-spectrum antiviral nanoviricide developed by NanoViricides, Inc., designed as a biomimetic polymer that mimics the viral receptor to bind and dismantle enveloped virus particles, particularly coronaviruses, rendering them inactive before host immune involvement. Its mechanism involves disruption of the viral capsid organization, orthogonal to intracellular replication inhibitors, and it can encapsulate other antivirals like remdesivir to protect them from degradation and enhance efficacy. Primarily indicated for COVID-19 and other coronavirus infections, it has shown preclinical efficacy in animal models of lethal CoV-NL63 infection, extending survival beyond remdesivir alone, and entered Phase 1 clinical trials as oral formulations (syrup and gummies).
