Overview

NV-HHV-101 is a topical antiviral nanomedicine developed for the treatment of shingles rash (herpes zoster), designed using NanoViricides' proprietary nanoviricide platform. It works by mimicking the herpesvirus binding site on the herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM), which is the classical receptor for herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2), allowing the drug to bind to and inactivate the virus particles directly at the site of infection. The active compound is not a traditional small molecule or biologic but a synthetic nanomaterial engineered to disrupt viral infectivity. NV-HHV-101's initial formulation is a dermal topical cream. Preclinical studies demonstrated a favorable safety profile. Expanded indications may include treatment of cold sores (HSV-1), genital herpes (HSV-2), herpes keratitis, and viral ocular infections[1][3][5][7][8][9][12][14].
