Overview

NVB302 is a novel type B lantibiotic and a derivative of deoxyactagardine B, developed by Novacta Biosystems for the treatment of *Clostridium difficile* infection (CDI). As a peptide antibiotic, it acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, specifically targeting Lipid II. NVB302 is designed for oral administration; it remains stable within the gastrointestinal tract and exhibits minimal systemic absorption, ensuring high concentrations at the site of infection in the colon. A key therapeutic advantage is its narrow spectrum of activity, which provides potent bactericidal effects against *C. difficile* strains while having negligible impact on the Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria that constitute the healthy gut flora. NVB302 has completed Phase I clinical development, where it was found to be safe and well-tolerated in healthy volunteers.
