Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**NVP019** is a next-generation cyclophilin inhibitor derived from a novel chemistry platform, designed to be more potent, specific, and effective at lower doses than cyclosporine. It inhibits mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) opening, providing mitochondrial protection with applications in organ protection, reperfusion injury (e.g., myocardial infarction), traumatic brain injury, and various brain damages. Developed by NeuroVive Pharmaceutical (now Abliva) as an intravenous formulation for lifecycle management following CicloMulsion and NeuroSTAT, it was planned for Phase 1 trials around 2017; an oral formulation (NVP018) targeted antiviral indications including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV-1.
