Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**NVP025** is a preclinical drug candidate from NeuroVive Pharmaceutical AB (now Abliva) targeting mitochondrial myopathy, a group of genetic disorders causing muscle weakness due to mitochondrial dysfunction in skeletal muscle. It is a novel sangamide class cyclophilin inhibitor designed for chronic oral treatment to protect mitochondria from dysfunctional calcium handling, preventing muscle wasting. In a 2018 experimental model at Karolinska Institutet, NVP025 improved survival to 94% (vs 50% control) and enhanced muscle function, marking a breakthrough; the project advanced to candidate drug selection in 2018 with plans for patient development by 2020.[1][2][5][7]
