Overview

NVX-CoV2515 is a recombinant protein-based, adjuvanted COVID-19 vaccine developed by Novavax. It specifically targets the Omicron BA.1 subvariant of SARS-CoV-2 and is based on the same full-length prefusion recombinant spike (S) protein trimer technology as Novavax’s prototype vaccine, NVX-CoV2373, but with an updated antigen sequence to match Omicron BA.1[5]. The vaccine uses the saponin-based Matrix-M adjuvant to enhance immune response[5]. Clinical trials have demonstrated that NVX-CoV2515 elicits a superior neutralizing antibody response against Omicron BA.1 compared to the original Wuhan strain-based vaccine (NVX-CoV2373), particularly when used as a booster in individuals previously vaccinated with mRNA vaccines such as those from Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna[2][3][4][5]. Safety data indicate that its adverse event profile is similar to other Novavax COVID-19 vaccines, with no new safety concerns identified[2][4].
