Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NW Low-Glu is a fixed-dose herbal combination product developed by Natural Wellness Biotech for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The formulation consists of powdered extracts from the leaves of Ficus deltoidea (Mas Cotek), the bark of Cinnamomum cassia, and the seeds of Nigella sativa (Black Seed). It exerts its hypoglycemic effects through multiple pathways, including the inhibition of alpha-glucosidase activity, stimulation of insulin secretion via K+ ATP channel-dependent pathways, and enhancement of insulin sensitivity. In a Phase 2 clinical trial involving treatment-naïve T2DM patients, NW Low-Glu demonstrated non-inferiority to metformin in reducing HbA1c and postprandial glucose levels, while also achieving significantly greater weight reduction. The product is registered as a dietary supplement in Malaysia.
