Overview

NWRD02 is a nucleic acid-based vaccine candidate, specifically a DNA vaccine, developed by Newish Biotechnology for the prevention of COVID-19. It is built using the company's proprietary STARi (Super Targeting Activated Response of Immunization) platform, which is designed to overcome the low immunogenicity often associated with traditional DNA vaccines. The STARi technology utilizes a dual-action strategy: it encodes the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein antigen fused with sequences that target the protein to dendritic cells (DCs) via specific receptors, while simultaneously expressing molecular adjuvants that trigger DC maturation and activation. This approach is intended to induce a potent and durable immune response, including both neutralizing antibodies and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) activity. NWRD02 is one of four Class 1 new drugs from Newish Biotechnology to receive clinical trial clearance from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).
