NX-10

NX-10 is a novel non-iodinated intravascular contrast agent being developed by Nextrast, Inc. for computed tomography (CT) imaging. The active ingredient consists of carboxybetaine zwitterionic-coated tantalum oxide (TaCZ) nanoparticles. As a blood-pool agent, NX-10 is designed to remain within the vasculature to enhance CT imaging of cardiovascular structures and lesions. Preclinical studies indicate that TaCZ provides superior vascular contrast enhancement compared to conventional iodinated agents like iopamidol, with sustained enhancement in delayed phases. This tantalum-based formulation is particularly advantageous for imaging overweight and obese patients, where traditional agents often show reduced effectiveness at higher x-ray tube potentials. It is currently in the IND-enabling phase of development for applications including cardiovascular imaging, trauma triage, and liver lesion characterization.
