Overview

**NX-AS-401** is an investigational ajoene-containing compound derived from garlic (*Allium sativum*), developed by Neem Biotech as a novel antimicrobial agent. It exhibits broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive bacteria like methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA), primarily through growth inhibition of planktonic cells (MIC 128 µg/ml, MBC 2048 µg/ml) and disruption of biofilms (inhibits formation at 32 µg/ml, disrupts pre-formed at 512 µg/ml), rather than direct bactericidal killing. NX-AS-401 demonstrates synergistic effects with multiple antibiotic classes, lowering their required concentrations, and acts as a quorum sensing inhibitor (QSI) against *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* in cystic fibrosis infections. It has received FDA Orphan Drug Designation for adjunctive treatment of *P. aeruginosa* lung infections in CF patients and shows promise as an antimicrobial adjuvant with multi-target effects on bacterial virulence and structure.
