Overview

NY-ESO-1 recombinant protein is a cancer vaccine candidate consisting of the full-length recombinant New York esophageal squamous cell carcinoma 1 (NY-ESO-1) protein. NY-ESO-1 is a well-characterized cancer-testis antigen (CTA) that is typically expressed in germ cells but aberrantly expressed in various malignancies, including melanoma, esophageal cancer, and urothelial carcinoma, while remaining absent in normal adult somatic tissues. The vaccine is designed to induce both humoral (antibody) and cellular (CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell) immune responses against tumor cells expressing the antigen. In clinical development, it is frequently administered with immunologic adjuvants such as Poly-ICLC, Montanide ISA-51, BCG, or GM-CSF, or formulated with delivery systems like cholesterol-bearing hydrophobized pullulan (CHP) to enhance its immunogenicity and therapeutic efficacy.
