Overview

Nylidrin is a small molecule vasodilator and beta-adrenergic agonist, primarily used in the past for the treatment of peripheral vascular disorders and organic mental disorders. It acts by stimulating beta1 and beta2 adrenergic receptors, leading to dilation of blood vessels, increased cardiac output, and improved blood flow to various organs including the brain and extremities. Nylidrin was also used to suppress uterine contractility in premature labor. Its clinical benefits included increasing walking ability in patients with peripheral vascular disease and supporting healing of ulcers or frostbite. The drug was withdrawn from the U.S. market after being deemed lacking substantial evidence of effectiveness for certain indications such as cerebral circulatory insufficiencies[1][2][3][4][5][7].
