NYMC X-179A is a reassortant influenza A (H1N1) virus strain developed by New York Medical College using classical reassortment techniques. It was created as a reference and vaccine seed strain for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. The hemagglutinin (HA), neuraminidase (NA), and PB1 genes are derived from the pandemic A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)v virus, while the remaining internal genes come from the high-growth donor strain A/PR/8/34 via NYMC X-157. This reassortant was used as the basis for manufacturing inactivated split or subunit vaccines against H1N1 influenza, providing antigenic match to circulating pandemic strains[1][4][5]. The mechanism of action is through induction of an immune response against H1N1 influenza antigens.
