Nyotran

Nyotran is a liposomal, intravenous formulation of the polyene antifungal nystatin developed as a systemic agent for serious invasive fungal infections, particularly due to Candida and Aspergillus species. By encapsulating nystatin in liposomes, Nyotran was designed to retain the ergosterol-binding, pore-forming activity of conventional nystatin while reducing systemic toxicity and enabling parenteral dosing for deep-seated mycoses. The product was developed by Aronex Pharmaceuticals under license from MD Anderson Cancer Center, with a later global licensing collaboration with Abbott Laboratories, and advanced into late phase 3 clinical trials for systemic fungal infections, but it has not been marketed.
