Nystamysyn

Nystamysyn is an approved antifungal medication developed and marketed by the Greek pharmaceutical company Farmasyn S.A. Its active ingredient is nystatin, a polyene macrolide antifungal agent. Nystamysyn works by binding to ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This binding creates pores in the membrane, leading to the leakage of intracellular contents and subsequent fungal cell death. It is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of *Candida* infections affecting the oral cavity (oral thrush), esophagus, and intestinal tract. Available as an oral suspension, the drug acts locally on mucous membranes with negligible systemic absorption, making it suitable for use in infants, elderly patients, and immunocompromised individuals.
