Overview

NYVAC Mosaic env vaccine is an HIV vaccine candidate that utilizes the NYVAC poxvirus vector expressing mosaic HIV envelope (Env) proteins. NYVAC vectors are highly attenuated vaccinia virus strains devoid of genes associated with poxvirus virulence and pathogenicity[1]. They do not disseminate in the host and induce low immune activation, making them a promising vector for HIV vaccines[1]. The mosaic Env immunogens in this vaccine are designed to optimize coverage of potential T-cell epitopes and induce immunity against diverse global HIV isolates[1][3]. This approach aims to address one of the major challenges in HIV vaccine development - the extensive genetic diversity of HIV strains worldwide. The vaccine is typically administered in a prime-boost regimen, where NYVAC vectors expressing mosaic Env are used for priming, followed by protein boosts with recombinant gp120 proteins[1]. This heterologous prime-boost approach is designed to enhance both cellular and humoral immune responses against HIV.
