The NZ MenB OMV vaccine (MeNZB) is an outer membrane vesicle (OMV) vaccine developed specifically to control an epidemic of invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B in New Zealand. The active component consists of outer membrane vesicles derived from the epidemic strain N. meningitidis group B subtype P1.7b,4 (strain NZ98/254). The primary mechanism is immunostimulation—inducing bactericidal antibodies against the PorA protein and other surface antigens present in the OMVs. Clinical studies demonstrated that a three-dose regimen was well tolerated and highly immunogenic across age groups[8]. This monovalent OMV-based formulation differs from later multicomponent vaccines like 4CMenB/Bexsero by lacking recombinant protein antigens.
