NZX and its related variant NZ2114 are antimicrobial peptide candidates being developed by HAMLET BioPharma for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, including multi-drug resistant (MDR-TB) strains. These peptides are variants of plectasin, a fungal defensin, and exert bactericidal activity by targeting Lipid II and disrupting the complex, lipid-rich cell membrane of *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. NZ2114 has demonstrated an 81% reduction in bacterial load in murine infection models and shows high stability in serum with minimal toxicity to human cells. The program was acquired from Linnane Projects AB in March 2023 and is currently in preclinical development. HAMLET BioPharma has also partnered with ImmunoForge to develop advanced administration technology for the NZX peptide.
