NZYM-001

NZYM-001 is a sustained-release oral formulation of fosamprenavir, an HIV protease inhibitor being repurposed by N-Zyme Biomedical as a first-in-class pepsin inhibitor. It is specifically designed for the treatment of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Unlike standard-of-care proton pump inhibitors that suppress stomach acid, NZYM-001 targets pepsin, a digestive enzyme that causes tissue damage and inflammation when refluxed into the upper aerodigestive tract. The formulation incorporates sodium alginate to enhance mucoadhesion and prolong drug delivery to the esophageal mucosa. N-Zyme Biomedical is advancing this candidate into Phase II clinical trials to address the underlying enzymatic cause of reflux-mediated injury.
