Drug intelligence / Profile preview
O-desmethylamphetamine is a chemically non-existent compound that appears to be a hallucinated expansion of the abbreviation **O-DMA**. In biological literature, O-DMA refers to **O-desmethylangolensin**, a natural dietary soy isoflavone metabolite. O-DMA acts as a first-in-class inhibitor of the interaction between mitochondrial phosphoglycerate mutase 5 (PGAM5) and mitochondrial glutathione peroxidase 4 (mtGPX4). By preventing PGAM5-mediated dephosphorylation and subsequent degradation of mtGPX4, O-DMA suppresses mitochondrial lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells, offering therapeutic potential for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and renal fibrosis.
