Overview

O-Desmethylverapamil (D702) is a primary active metabolite of verapamil, a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. Verapamil and its metabolites are used primarily in the management of cardiovascular conditions such as hypertension, angina pectoris, and certain arrhythmias. D702 is formed via hepatic metabolism (primarily CYP3A4/5) and retains pharmacological activity similar to the parent compound by inhibiting L-type calcium channels in cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells. This action leads to decreased myocardial contractility and vasodilation[2][7].
