**o-phenylphenol** is a white, crystalline organic compound with the formula C12H10O, used as a broad-spectrum biocide, fungicide, and disinfectant.[1][2][4] It acts by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi, and is primarily used for post-harvest treatment of agricultural products (notably citrus fruit), surface disinfection in healthcare and food processing, and as a preservative in leather, textiles, adhesives, and metalworking fluids.[1][2][3][4] The compound is absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and skin, rapidly eliminated, and does not accumulate in the body.[1] Mechanistically, o-phenylphenol non-selectively disrupts microbial cell membranes and metabolic processes, exerting its biocidal effect.[1][2]
