Overview
O-TROP is a combination ophthalmic solution developed and marketed by Opdenas Lifesciences, containing tropicamide (0.8%) and phenylephrine hydrochloride (5%). It is primarily indicated for inducing mydriasis (pupil dilation) to facilitate diagnostic procedures such as fundoscopic examinations. The product utilizes a dual mechanism of action: tropicamide acts as a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist, blocking parasympathetic stimulation to the iris sphincter muscle, while phenylephrine serves as an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that stimulates the iris dilator muscle. This synergistic combination provides rapid and effective pupil dilation. Administered as topical eye drops, it is a common diagnostic tool in clinical ophthalmology.
