Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OA-201 is a proprietary small molecule formulation developed by Ampio Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of osteoarthritis, primarily targeting osteoarthritis of the knee. The drug was designed to reduce pain and preserve cartilage in nonclinical models. Earlier proof-of-concept studies suggested OA-201 could provide both pain reduction and cartilage protection, but larger preclinical studies failed to demonstrate a statistically significant pain reduction benefit. Its mechanism of action remains undisclosed, but is presumed to be anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective based on intended therapeutic outcomes. As of February 2024, the program's development status is uncertain due to lack of robust efficacy results needed to support advancement to clinical trials[1][3][7][12].
