Overview

OAB-14 is a small molecule drug candidate developed by Shandong Xinhua Pharmaceutical for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Chemically derived from osthole, a natural coumarin compound, OAB-14 is designed as a multi-target agent to address the complex pathology of the disease. Its primary mechanism of action involves the dual inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE), which helps to maintain levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain. Additionally, OAB-14 has shown potential in inhibiting the aggregation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides and providing neuroprotective effects against oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. The drug is currently in early-stage clinical development, with Phase 1 trials focused on evaluating its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in humans.
