OB-002

OB-002 is a recombinant protein and chemokine analogue that acts as a potent antagonist of the chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5). It is a 69-residue analog of the human chemokine RANTES/CCL5. By blocking CCR5—a receptor involved in immune cell trafficking—OB-002 inhibits HIV entry into cells and may also reduce tumor metastasis and inflammation. The drug has demonstrated complete protection against HIV transmission in nonhuman primate models and has shown an excellent safety profile in early clinical studies as a topical microbicide for HIV prevention. Additionally, it is being investigated for potential use in cancer (notably colorectal cancer), SARS-CoV-2 infection-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), neuroinflammation, and stroke recovery. The drug was originally developed by The Mintaka Foundation for Medical Research and is currently being developed by Orion Biotechnology Canada along with other collaborators[1][3][6][8].
