Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Obadex is a combination ophthalmic pharmaceutical product marketed by SKT Healthcare. It consists of the aminoglycoside antibiotic tobramycin and the potent synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone. This combination is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions where a bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial ocular infection exists, such as uveitis, eye injury, radiation-induced inflammation, or chemical burns. Tobramycin provides bactericidal activity by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. Dexamethasone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to suppress the inflammatory response, reducing edema, capillary dilation, and fibrin deposition. The product is formulated as eye drops for topical ophthalmic administration.
