Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Obagi Hydrate is a non-comedogenic, long-acting facial moisturizer developed by Obagi Medical. It is engineered to provide continuous hydration for up to eight hours using Hydromanil technology. Hydromanil, a moisturizing agent derived from the tara seed (*Caesalpinia spinosa*), functions by creating a three-dimensional matrix on the skin's surface that traps water and gradually releases it into the stratum corneum. This mechanism is supplemented by traditional emollients and occlusives, including shea butter, mango butter, avocado oil, and glycerin, which work to reinforce the skin's natural lipid barrier and reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL). The product is primarily used to alleviate skin dryness and sensitivity, often as a component of comprehensive skincare systems like Obagi Nu-Derm to mitigate the drying effects of prescription-strength treatments.
