Obecabtagene autoleucel is a CD19-directed genetically modified autologous T-cell immunotherapy, also known as CAR T-cell therapy. It is indicated for the treatment of adults with relapsed or refractory B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The therapy involves collecting a patient's own T cells, modifying them in the laboratory to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) that targets the CD19 protein on B cells, expanding these modified cells, and then infusing them back into the patient. This enables the immune system to better recognize and kill cancerous B cells. Obecabtagene autoleucel is administered via intravenous infusion and has been associated with side effects such as cytokine release syndrome and neurotoxicity. The drug was developed by Autolus Therapeutics in collaboration with University College London (UCL) and is marketed under the brand name Aucatzyl[3][4][5][7][8].
