Obinepitide is a synthetic peptide drug designed as an analogue of two natural human hormones, peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide. Both hormones are released during meals and act as satiety signals from the gastrointestinal tract to the central nervous system, helping regulate food intake and appetite. Obinepitide combines the properties of both PYY and pancreatic polypeptide into a single molecule, acting as a dual agonist at neuropeptide Y2 (Y2) and neuropeptide Y4 (Y4) receptors with high potency. This dual action is intended to suppress appetite more effectively than targeting either receptor alone. In preclinical studies, obinepitide demonstrated superior long-term weight reduction compared to PYY3–36 alone. The drug was developed primarily for obesity treatment but has not reached regulatory approval[1][2][3][4][5].
