Overview

OCB-030 (also known as NVP-018 or NV556) is an orally bioavailable, sanglifehrin-based cyclophilin inhibitor originally developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. As a cyclophilin inhibitor, it targets host proteins (cyclophilins) that are essential for the replication and assembly of the hepatitis B virus. The compound was licensed by NeuroVive Pharmaceutical to OnCore Biopharma (which later merged with Tekmira to form Arbutus Biopharma) in September 2014 as part of a strategy to create a curative, all-oral regimen for HBV. However, Arbutus discontinued the development of OCB-030 in 2015 to prioritize other assets in its pipeline, and the license agreement was officially terminated in 2016. Following the return of rights, NeuroVive regained the ability to develop the compound for HBV and other liver diseases, such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), under the code NV556.
