Overview

OCL-1 (also known as OCL-001) is a proprietary formulation of riboflavin (Vitamin B2) developed by OcuLuce for use in corneal cross-linking (CXL) procedures. The drug acts as a photosensitizer that, when applied to the cornea and activated by specific wavelengths of ultraviolet-A (UVA) light, generates reactive oxygen species. these reactive intermediates facilitate the formation of new covalent bonds between collagen fibrils within the corneal stroma. This process, known as collagen cross-linking, increases the biomechanical stability and stiffness of the cornea, effectively halting the progression of corneal ectatic diseases such as keratoconus and post-LASIK ectasia. OCL-1 is designed to optimize penetration and efficacy during the CXL procedure, particularly in 'epi-on' (transepithelial) or accelerated protocols.
