Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OCS-01 is a high-concentration dexamethasone ophthalmic (eye drop) formulation developed using the proprietary OPTIREACH technology by Oculis. It is designed to deliver dexamethasone efficiently from the anterior to the posterior segment of the eye via topical administration. This non-invasive approach contrasts with current therapies for diabetic macular edema (DME), which require intravitreal injections or ocular implants. The drug leverages cyclodextrin-based nanoparticles to enhance solubility and residence time on the ocular surface, enabling effective delivery to retinal tissues. Dexamethasone acts as a potent glucocorticoid receptor agonist with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. OCS-01 is being investigated primarily for DME but also for postoperative inflammation and pain following cataract surgery, uveitic macular edema, post-surgical macular edema, retinal edema, and uveitis[1][3][4][6][7].
