OCS-05 is an investigational, first-in-class, small peptide neuroprotectant developed for the treatment of acute optic neuritis and other neuro-ophthalmic diseases. Its mechanism of action involves activation of trophic factor pathways such as insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF‑1) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), as well as stimulation of serum-glucocorticoid regulated kinase (SGK2). This activity is believed to protect nerve axons and prevent vision loss in demyelinating conditions. In clinical trials, OCS‑05 has been administered intravenously alongside corticosteroids—standard-of-care for acute optic neuritis—and has demonstrated safety and efficacy in improving retinal structure and visual function compared to placebo plus steroid. The drug is being developed by Bionure (originator) and Oculis Pharma[1][2][3][4][5][8].
