Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Octapharma factor VIII concentrates refer to a portfolio of Factor VIII (FVIII) replacement therapies developed by Octapharma AG for the treatment of haemophilia A. This group includes Nuwiq (simoctocog alfa), a fourth-generation recombinant human FVIII produced in a human cell line; Octanate, a plasma-derived FVIII concentrate; and Wilate, a plasma-derived concentrate containing both von Willebrand factor (VWF) and FVIII. These products function by replacing the deficient or absent clotting factor VIII in patients with congenital haemophilia A, thereby restoring the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade and enabling the formation of stable blood clots. These concentrates have been evaluated in various clinical settings, including the Protect-NOW study, which documented their effectiveness and safety in previously untreated and minimally treated patients.
