Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Octaplas LG is a solvent/detergent-treated, pooled human plasma product developed by Octapharma. It is manufactured from large pools of human plasma (630–1520 units) to provide standardized concentrations of natural pro- and anti-coagulation factors, including Factor V, Factor VIII, Protein S, and plasminogen. The manufacturing process includes solvent/detergent treatment to inactivate lipid-enveloped viruses and a prion-specific ligand affinity chromatography step (the "LG" or ligand-generation feature) to enhance safety by removing prions. It is primarily indicated for the replacement of multiple coagulation factors in patients with acquired deficiencies due to liver disease or major surgery (such as cardiac surgery or liver transplant) and for therapeutic plasma exchange in patients with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
