Overview

Valpinax is a fixed-dose combination small molecule drug developed by Crinos S.p.A. for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It consists of octatropine methylbromide, an anticholinergic agent, and diazepam, a benzodiazepine tranquilizer. Octatropine methylbromide acts as an antispasmodic by antagonizing muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing spasms. Diazepam acts as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA-A receptors, providing anxiolytic and muscle-relaxant effects that address the psychological and neurological components often associated with IBS. The combination is typically administered orally and has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials in Italy.
