A prophylactic, protein subunit HPV vaccine composed of L1 capsid protein virus-like particles (VLPs) from eight human papillomavirus types, designed to induce type-specific neutralizing antibodies and prevent infection and HPV-related disease. L1 VLP vaccines work by presenting conformational epitopes that elicit robust humoral immunity without containing viral DNA. Compared with licensed quadrivalent (HPV6/11/16/18) and nonavalent (HPV6/11/16/18/31/33/45/52/58) vaccines, an octavalent composition is not a standard, widely referenced formulation in current literature and regulatory documents; most advanced multivalent candidates are nonavalent or higher-valent (e.g., 11-valent) L1 VLP vaccines. As such, this appears to refer to a hypothetical or investigational naming rather than an established product. The closest established products are quadrivalent Gardasil and nonavalent 9vHPV, both recombinant L1 VLP vaccines using alum-based adjuvants and proven to be safe and effective.
