Octosedan

Octosedan is a rectal ointment formulation of lidocaine (50 mg/g, or 5%) developed by Laboratori Baldacci. It is approved in Italy as a non-prescription (SOP) medication for the short-term symptomatic treatment of pain and pruritus (itching) in the anal region associated with hemorrhoidal disorders and anal fissures. Lidocaine, the active ingredient, is an amide-type local anesthetic that works by reversibly blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes. This blockade inhibits the influx of sodium ions, preventing the initiation and propagation of action potentials along pain-sensing nerve fibers, thereby providing rapid local pain relief.
