Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Octreotide + LipOra peptide is an investigational oral formulation of octreotide, a somatostatin analog, developed by Universitaetsklinikum Heidelberg using the LipOra delivery technology. The LipOra platform utilizes a specific synthetic peptide (the LipOra peptide) as a permeation enhancer to facilitate the intestinal absorption of octreotide, which is traditionally administered via injection. Octreotide acts as an agonist at somatostatin receptors (primarily SSTR2 and SSTR5), inhibiting the secretion of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). This oral formulation is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of acromegaly, aiming to provide a more convenient administration route compared to standard-of-care subcutaneous or intramuscular injections.
