Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Octreotide long-acting injection is a sustained-release formulation of the synthetic cyclic octapeptide octreotide acetate, developed by CSPC ZhongQi Pharmaceutical Technology. As a somatostatin analog, it mimics the inhibitory actions of natural somatostatin but with significantly greater potency and a longer half-life. It primarily targets somatostatin receptor subtypes 2 (SSTR2) and 5 (SSTR5), leading to the inhibition of growth hormone, glucagon, insulin, and various peptides secreted by the gastroenteropancreatic system. This formulation is specifically being investigated for the treatment of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs), where it helps control hormonal symptoms and exerts anti-proliferative effects on tumor cells. Unlike traditional long-acting octreotide formulations that typically require intramuscular injection, this version is being evaluated for subcutaneous administration, often in combination with other targeted therapies like albumin-bound sirolimus.
