Overview

OCU310 is an investigational ophthalmic small molecule developed by Ocugen for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED). It is a preservative-free nanoemulsion formulation of 0.2% brimonidine tartrate, utilizing Ocugen's proprietary OcuNanoE technology. Initially developed as a combination therapy containing both brimonidine tartrate and the corticosteroid loteprednol etabonate, the formulation was later modified for Phase 3 clinical trials to be steroid-free, containing only brimonidine tartrate. As a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, brimonidine tartrate is intended to provide anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictive, and analgesic benefits to patients with DED. In 2019, Ocugen announced that OCU310 did not meet its co-primary endpoints in a Phase 3 trial, although it was found to be well-tolerated. The company has since evaluated strategic options, including potential partnerships, for the drug's future development.
