Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OCU500 is a mucosal vaccine candidate developed by Vaccigen for the prevention of COVID-19. Unlike traditional injectable vaccines, OCU500 is designed for mucosal administration to induce a localized immune response directly in the respiratory tract, which is the primary entry point for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. By stimulating the production of secretory IgA antibodies and activating local T-cells in the mucosal lining, the vaccine aims to provide a robust first line of defense that could potentially reduce both infection rates and viral transmission. OCU500 is currently in Phase 1/2 clinical development.
