Overview
OcuRing-K is a bioerodible, sustained-release intracameral implant developed by LayerBio for the management of postoperative pain and inflammation following cataract surgery. The system utilizes a proprietary platform to deliver ketorolac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and opioid-sparing analgesic, directly to ocular tissues. Unlike traditional topical eye drops, the OcuRing-K implant is applied to the haptic of an intraocular lens (IOL) before surgical implantation, where it provides controlled release of the medication for approximately two weeks. This 'dropless' delivery method is designed to overcome patient compliance issues and the delivery inefficiencies associated with postoperative eye drop regimens. Following a majority equity acquisition by PainReform in 2025, the candidate is advancing into Phase II clinical development.
