Overview
OcuRing-K TD (also known as OcuRing-K) is a bio-erodible, sustained-release intraocular implant developed by LayerBio in partnership with PRF Technologies (formerly PainReform) for the prevention and treatment of postoperative pain and inflammation following cataract surgery. The device-drug combination consists of a polymer-based elastic ring that is applied directly to the haptic of an intraocular lens (IOL) during surgery. Once implanted, OcuRing-K TD continuously releases the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ketorolac directly into the intraocular tissues over several weeks. This drop-less approach is designed to improve drug bioavailability, reduce total drug exposure, and eliminate the need for complex, patient-administered postoperative eye-drop regimens, thereby enhancing patient compliance and satisfaction. In April 2026, the U.S. FDA cleared the Investigational New Drug (IND) application for OcuRing-K TD, enabling the initiation of a Phase II clinical trial.
