Overview

OcuSeal is a synthetic, liquid ocular bandage medical device designed to provide a temporary protective barrier on the ocular surface. Developed by HyperBranch Medical Technology and commercialized by BD Medical-Ophthalmic Systems, it consists of two components—polyethylene glycol (PEG) powder and a polyethylene amine liquid—that, when mixed, form a dendritic hydrogel. The hydrogel crosslinks in approximately 30 seconds to create a transparent, elastic, and microbial barrier over corneal, conjunctival, or scleral incisions and abrasions. It is intended to reduce patient discomfort, decrease surgical time by potentially replacing sutures, and prevent complications like endophthalmitis. The barrier typically lasts 1-3 days before naturally degrading within 4 days.
