Overview

OCV-501 is a synthetic peptide cancer vaccine derived from the Wilms tumor gene 1 (WT1) protein. It functions as a helper peptide designed to induce Type 1 T-helper (Th1) immune responses in an HLA class II-restricted manner, thereby enhancing the activity of cytotoxic T lymphocytes specific for WT1-derived killer peptides. The primary mechanism involves immunomodulation through stimulation of Th1 cells, which can support anti-tumor immunity. OCV-501 has been developed primarily for use in elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), particularly as maintenance therapy following complete remission after standard consolidation treatment. Clinical studies have demonstrated its safety and immunogenicity, with observed increases in immune biomarkers and no major safety concerns at tested doses[2][3][6]. The drug was developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical.
