OCZ-055 is an investigational small molecule Rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitor developed by Jiangsu Carephar Pharmaceutical for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is designed to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through the trabecular meshwork, which is the eye's primary drainage pathway. By inhibiting the Rho-associated protein kinase enzyme, OCZ-055 promotes the relaxation of the trabecular meshwork cells and reduces resistance to fluid outflow. This mechanism offers a distinct therapeutic approach compared to traditional glaucoma medications that primarily focus on reducing fluid production or enhancing secondary drainage pathways.
