Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OD001 is a novel topical ophthalmic formulation of dipyridamole developed by Ocular Discovery for the treatment of Dry Eye Disease (DED). Dipyridamole, a small molecule traditionally used as an oral antithrombotic and vasodilator, has been repurposed for ocular surface disorders due to its anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. The formulation is designed to be temperature-stable and soluble, overcoming the solubility challenges of the parent compound for topical delivery. OD001 acts primarily as a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor and an adenosine reuptake inhibitor, which increases local adenosine levels and modulates cyclic nucleotide signaling. The drug has been approved in Israel for the relief of DED symptoms and is being advanced through the US FDA 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway.
